The Kings claimed defenceman Kyle Quincey off waivers from the Red Wings on Monday. The claim was made after the Kings learned that young defenceman Jack Johnson is likely to miss as much as three months as a result of what appeared to be an arm injury suffered in Sunday night's loss to the San Jose Sharks.
The Kings blueline got even thinner after Johnson's injury, look for them to add a veteran defenseman very soon.
As for the Red Wings, they needed to clear some cap room for various reasons. It wasn't a suprise that this young stud was picked up; he was gaining interest from at least 6 teams before Ken Holland had to take matters in to his own hands.
