According to the Canadian Press, the Tampa Bay Lightning have named star center Vincent Lecavalier their captain for the 2008-09 season, and likely beyond. He replaces Tim Taylor, who retired after last season. Lecavalier was their captain once before, from 1999-2001, but clearly was not prepared to wear the "C" back then, as he was only 20-21 years old. Now, at 28, he is much older, more experienced, and has seemingly accepted the responsibility of being Tampa Bay's franchise player.
Living in the Tampa area, I have to say that Lecavalier could end up being the most celebrated athlete in this town's history. He is featured on numerous billboards with the phrase "My Game, My Team, My Town" on them. The man is the unofficial king of Tampa, and I expect that to continue for the rest of his 11 year contract. I am looking forward to attending Lightning games this year, as Lecavalier and company should be very exciting to watch with their plethora of new and talented forwards.

I can't say enough about this guy. I am happy to see he was given the honour again.
