No. 16 To The Rafters

Today, the Vancouver Canucks announced that Trevor Linden's number 16 will be raised to the rafters of GM Place.

Linden retired from the NHL this past off-season after amassing a 20 year career that included stops in Long Island, Montreal and Washington before returing to Vancouver. Linden is the Canucks second all-time leading scorer.

This is a tremendous honour to Trevor as well as Canuck fans world-wide. Trevor will be long remembered for his leadership on and off the ice and for his work with the community.

I loved it when Linden was on the Habs!! I wanted him there for sooo long and when he finally arrived it was awesome! Unfortunately, it was during the Houle era, which is like the Ballard/JFJ era for you Leaf fans......

Linden was a terrific hockey player and it was sad to see him leave Vancouver in the first place amid the Keenan/Messier controversy. Even when he was with my Habs, you could tell his heart was with the Canucks and it's good to see the organization honour an amazing player!!

i would think that would be Pavel Bure...

No!!
Bure may have been the most "talented" player or the best offensive player, but no way was he the best Canuck!!

In Montreal, there have been many players who can be considered some of the greatest all time. Among them is Bob Gainey and he was never a big scorer. But he will always be considered one of the greatest, Montreal has just had too many players that were offensively gifted and had heart!

Bure was most likely one of the best pure scorers the game ever saw, but being a great player takes more than that!!

Trevor Linden has given everything he can to the canucks organization and the vancouver community. its the least that they can do by retiring his number. he is more than deserving of the honour.

Pavel was amazing don't get me wrong, but I and many others still have a bad taste in our mouths from when Pavel Bure demanded a trade. I can't say that I blame him, but the way he went about it was what really ticked the fans off.

Trevor on the other hand was always a professional. He played a strong role in the community and played with more heart than any player I've ever seen on this team. If there is one player that Canuck fans associate with the team it is number 16.
