Around the league

- Former Coyotes Mike York has reported in great shape to the Blue Jackets traning camp. York scored 14 points in 63 games last season with the Yotes. If he is able to play on the first two lines, look for him to rebound offensively. York scored 52 points with NYI in 2005-06.

- Former St. Louis Blues goalie Hannu Toivonen is returned back to Finland this season to get his game back. Toivonen wants to play more games this year, which would have been unlikely with the Blues' crowded crease of Legace, Mason, Schwartz and youngster Ben Bishop.

- The Devils are close to reach an agreement with RFA forward Rod Pelley. Pelley will report to the Devils camp even if he's without a contract. Pelley will have a hard time to crack the Devils top-12 this season with the additions of Rolston and Holik. Pelley played 58 games with NJ last season, notching 6 points.

- The Devils have also signed former Islanders defenseman Matthew Spiller. He will likely play in Lowell this season. Spiller played 9 games for the NYI last season. The terms of the deal are unknown.

A couple of things:

1) Mike York has NOT reported to Blue Jackets training camp. The camp officially begins on Sept. 20. He has been working out in East Lansing on Michigan State's campus this summer, and is reportedly faring well.

2) York is unlikely to crack the team's top-six forwards. With the likes of Huselius, Nash, Umberger, Modin, Voracek, Brassard and Torres in the mix, I find it hard to see him stepping into that kind of role.
