Hey Scotty, Do you think with the habs are done for now with the acquisition of Robert Lang?

Hey Jordan,
I do indeed think the habs are done there may be a couple small, minor moves but I believe they are indeed done.

1. Why is there still a centre line on the ice surface?
2. For that matter, why are there still goal judges present?
3. Is the fast faceoff rule still around? And has anyone been penalized for being slow?
4. What was the deal with the San Jose Sharks being able to poach whichever players off the Minnesota North Stars roster in its expansion year? And why didn't they grab the star players like Modano?
Thanks!

Hey Dave,
1.I dont think Gary Bettman can explain haha,
2.I would think that they are just part of the crew and ive also noticed that almost anytime that they put the goal light on the ref's go upstairs.
3.Is it still around? I believe so....Anyone penalized? I dont remember the last time.
4.To be honest im not sure but I would assume that teams could put locks or guards on there players to keep them from being taken.

Do you have any insight into whether the Predators are going to do anything to acquire a winger with scoring ability (Mark Parrish?) or possibly bring back Marty Gelinas now that Jed Ortmeyer is likely lost for an extended period of time due to his blood clot issues? Thanks!

Hey There T.K.,
Ive actually heard the Preds are talking to Lightning about either Jokinen or Ouellet. They have definetly shown interest in Parrish however the Canucks are front runners for him at the moment. As far as Gelinas is concerned, as much as I think the Preds like him he's probably not the type of player they are looking for. Id look for Gelinas to join a team looking for a veteran late in the season.

Thanks for answering my questions. The thing I love about being a Flames fan in Vancouver, is when someone bugs me about my team, I simply tell them how many cups CGY has won, albeit with a show of fingers (the middle one) ;)

San Jose was allowed to poach players because the Gund brothers who sold the North Stars so they could buy the Sharks insisted on this being a condition of the sale.

Wow Scotty, do you know anything about hockey?

1) Icing. As previously stated.
2) Union workers. They will be there until they are compensated accordingly.
3) Yes it is still around. And yes, there have been several instances this past season where teams rec'd delay of game penalties.
4) It's called an expansion draft. You are able to protect a certain amount of players.

Answer number 4 is a long story, but here goes...

In 1990 the stars owners asked to re-locate to San Jose. The NHL wanted the stars to stay put so they awarded them an expansion franchise and made them sell the stars. There made a condition that they could take some players to the new team.

The North Stars selected 14 skaters and 2 goaltenders to protect. San Jose then selected 14 skaters and 2 goaltenders.

After that both teams took turns picking the remaining players.

Part of the deal was that the stars received half of the expansion draft picks (1 player from each of the 20 teams).
