Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said he and defenseman Chris Chelios have agreed to a one-year deal for slightly less than the $850,000 Chelios made last season. It does not include bonuses. The Wings are also close to signing defenseman Kyle Quincey to a two-year contract
Forward Darren McCarty said he's basically agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the club, similar to the deal Aaron Downey signed last month ($575,000 NHL salary, $100,000 minor league salary). It won't be signed until closer to the start of camp, however, as McCarty is hoping the NHL Players Association makes a decision on whether or not to open the CBA.
