Flyers update

- Antero Nittymaki is expected to miss 4-6 weeks because of a hip surgery. The Flyers might sign a veteran back-up goaltender for Biron for the time being (hello Jocelyn Thibault).

- Center Glen Metropolit is in a walking boot. He had a minor accident while on his property in Florida. "I should be ready in a few days," Metropolit said. Stevens expects him on the ice when training camp opens on Saturday.

- There will be a tough battle on defense in Philly this year. Timonen, Coburn, Jones and Eminger are locks for the top-4 spots. Ryan Parent, Ossi Vaananen, Nate Guenin, Lasse Kukkonen, Bryan Berard and Derian Hatcher are battling for the 3 reminaing spots. Hatcher will likely start the season on LITR and Berard will have to be very impressive to get an NHL contract from the Flyers as he's on a tryout basis.

Are you sure about those that list of defensemen, because Yahoo! Sports lists the Flyers' top 6 as Timonen, Coburn, Hatcher, Jones, Parent, and Vaananen, with Eminger and Kukkonen the odd men out. They very well could be wrong, of course.
