Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenseman Lawrence Nycholat in exchange for Ryan Shannon from the Ottawa Senators.
Nycholat mostley played in Bingampton last season (he played 3 games with the Senators) and was made expandable after the Meszaros trade created a logjam at the Sens blueline with the arrivals of Kuba and Picard.
Shannon played 27 games with the Canucks last season, recording 13 points. He was acquired for forward Jason King from Anaheim in 2007.

Great deal by Murray again! Not only does he shed $550K off the books, but he's got a reliable call up and a real gem in Shannon. Bingo is starting to look awful good awful quick.
Why would Gillis trade a player that could provide a little offence, at least, on a team that has none, for a defenseman that won't even play on the team this year. Unless Gillis has something bigger in the works, i'm starting to think firing Nonis was a big, big, mistake.
I 100% agree firing Nonis was a mistake, especially since this was supposed to be the offseason he got some offence. On another note I love what Gillis has done so far, especially with him likely nowhere near done. Don't forget Gillis has only had the job for a couple months and it's not his fault players didn't choose the canucks. My favourite thing about Gillis by far is that he's giving the kids a chance to play
