Why does adding Mathieu Schneider makes sense?
Simply put adding Scheider (or any other quality D-man) makes sense in Vancouver because it would provide GM Mike Gillis with options.
Add to the fact the Schneinder possess something that no one else on the Vancouver roster has (a Stanley Cup ring) but the veteran blueliner would open the door to the greater possibility of moving a defender for some offensive punch. Schneider is aging however the prospect of losing a Kevin Bieksa, Mattias Ohlund or Sami Salo (or even Alex Edler) would mean that the Canucks would be relying on a Rob Davison or Nathan McIver to produce solid minutes on the blueline.
Mark my words, the loss of Luc Bourdon to an off-season motorcylce accident had a large effect on the depth of the Vancouver defensive depth chart. Yes the Canucks top three to six defencemen are something to drool over but if you check out the farm, nothing (except maybe Sauve in a few years) really jumps out at you as a prospective NHLer.
til next time, keep your head up....

Thats why it's likely the Canucks who are signing Meszaros to an offer sheet and will then trade Bieksa away for some offensive help.
Yes i would agree with you. The story of Meszaros is just breaking and I was going to throw his name in there (with Schneider's) however, I want to confirm what team dropped this one on the Sens.
Its tough to say whether or not Gillis would go after Meszaros this way. If he did, hes got more balls than I do. At least if you look at the cost. Canucks previous GM would never do such a thing. However, I do like the Meszaros a lot.
Gillis has already shown this off-season that he has balls. He basically forced the trade of Bernier, made an offer sheet already on another player, and had the balls to offer 10 million per year to Sundin.
Of the GM's around this off season, I see him as the guy who's made the biggest attempt to improve his team and has done so with some balls to boot.
true
fyi ryan shannon has a stanley cup ring
it seems like the canucks defence did a lot of "drooling" last year because the whole team sucked.
I don't think Ryan Shannon had much of a hand in that Stanley Cup in Anaheim. And if you reckon the Canucks defence went through a plethora of injuries...hence the LACK OF DEPTH (as mentioned)
that doesn't mean that shannon doesn't have one..
a fact is a fact
