From Adam Proteau at the Hockey News:
The Hockey News has learned from a source close to the negotiations that Meszaros has agreed to a multi-year offer sheet with an average salary in excess of $5 million per season.
The team that has agreed to terms with the 22-year-old has yet to be confirmed.
The Ottawa Sun reported earlier that Meszaros was looking for a deal in the $4.5 million per year range while Ottawa had countered with an offer of $3.5 million per.
When contacted, Bryan Murray couldn't confirm the report. More to come!
Below are the teams with cap room to sign such a sheet AND with their next picks:
St. Louis Blues
Florida Panthers
Colorado Avalanche
Carolina Hurricanes
Columbus Blue Jackets
Vancouver Canucks
Nashville Predators
New York Islanders
Phoenix Coyotes
Atlanta Thrashers

two of those three teams being "thrown around" (by whom?) don't qualify within the parameters of the suggested amount, and the other team's ability is still in question.
actually, i meant two of the four, with the other two being in question.
its probly wont be tampa they only have 3 mil left
LA probably put the offer in.
I'm thinking LA. He's what they need (and they need to spend $$!)
my money is on LA....
"Team Being Thrown Around: Lightning,Canucks,LA and dont count out Montreal! "
How do you guys run a site like this? One ONE of those teams even has the picks available to do the deal. The deal is reportedly for 5mill+ per season. That means the team has to give up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounder for him.
ONLY the Canucks actually have all three of their picks. The other three teams are all missing at least one of those picks. They can't make the offer under the new collective bargaining agreement.
How about looking at teams like Columbus, Colorado, St. Louis, or the Islanders... with also leaving Vancouver from your original list included.
The poster above me is 100% right. beat me to it.
Kings and Lightning don't have their picks available.
I dig it and you are right guys and as a follow-up, teams with cap room to sign such a sheet AND with their picks, include:
St. Louis Blues
Florida Panthers
Colorado Avalanche
Carolina Hurricanes
Columbus Blue Jackets
Vancouver Canucks
Nashville Predators
New York Islanders
Phoenix Coyotes
Atlanta Thrashers
Vancouver signs Mezsaros. Trades Bieksa+ to Carolina for Matt Cullen and Ryan Bayda+. Hurricanes then sign Jeff O'Neil.
If Carolina adds a 2nd rounder, it would make more sense.
Tolensky puts Vancouver as the favorites, followed by NJ and TB. NJ would have to free up some cap space before the beginning of the season though.
Finally decided to sign up for a blogging account. I was the one who pointed out that three of the teams originally listed couldn't make the deal.
Anyways, I think you can take Atlanta off that list as well. Their GM should be shot for taking themselves out of the Tavares sweepstakes for overpaying for a guy who would still not get you into the playoffs.
I think they could afford to give up a second rounder...
Our prospect pipeline seems to be surprisingly full now...
Brandon Sutter, Drayson Bowman, Jamie McBain, Zac Boychuk, Zac Dalpe....
