Van Ryn probably out a month

Leafs defenseman Mike Van Ryn will be OUT for about one month following a vicious check from behind from Habs forward Tom Kostopoulos during yesterday's contest.

Van Ryn suffered a concussion, a broken nose and a broken hand.

Kostopoulos felt very bad after as he didn't want to hurt Van Ryn who turned his back to Kosto just before he got checked into the boards face first similar to Randy Jones' hit on Patrice Bergeron last season.

Kostopoulos received a 5 minute major for boarding and was ejected from the game.

Expect Kostopoulos to receive a 2 or 3-game suspension for this act.

Maybe you should watch the video again Van Ryn did not turn into that hit. It was a blatant check from behind and you know it.

I'm thinking 5-10 games...That was worse than any of Hollweg's hits (although Kostopolous doesn't have a bad history, so who knows)

Kosto isnt a dirty guy, Van Ryn saw him coming

It's not a matter of Kostopolous being a dirty player. It's the severity of the hit, Kostopolous could've killed him.

Any news on a Kostitsyn suspension? Didn't Peca get 10 games for grabbing an official's arm? Trying to fight an official should definitely be a suspension

That was very similar to the hit on Bergeron last year that put him out for months. Kostopolous needs to sit on this for a while.

Van Ryn saw him coming, but you have to have a certain level of trust for the guys you are playing against out on the ice. Van Ryn had his back turned all the way, he never turned into the hit. Terrible decision by Kostopolous here. This was a dirty hit that could have been very easily avoided if Kostopolous would have shown only an ounce of respect.

Doesn't matter if he saw him or not if Van Ryn saw Kostopolous then he saw Van Ryn.

There is no doubt that if you watch the video it was a blatant shot from behind.

If Kost-cheapshot saw him then he should have slowed or stopped all together.

well that means u guys know nothing about hockey...its a fast skilled and rough game, dont put yourself at risk like van ryn did. yes kosto should have slow down, but you cannot expect the other guy will stop 1 feet before the board and lean back like that (van ryn knew he was there and kosto knew that he knew it...)
