Kostopoulos Hit Under Review

Tom Kostopoulos' hit on Leafs d-man Mike Van Ryn will or is being reviewed by the league as I write this. It was no doubt dirty and as Fred said Van Ryn will likely be out about a month. Heres a video of the hit:

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK, SHOULD HE BE SUSPENDED, FINED OR BOTH AND IF SUSPENDED HOW LONG? EXPLAIN....

The major problem when deciding what kind of suspension is the fact Van Ryn turns his back and faces the boards at the last second....nobody likes to see a player get hurt, especially a decent guy like Van Ryn, but by curling at the last minute left Kostopoulos in a bad spot as he was already commited to the hit.

Had Van Ryn stayed sideways, there would be no discussion because in all likelihood, he wouldn't have been hurt. But it happens too often that a player will put themselves in a vulnerable position.

Kostopoulos may get a couple games, but the mitigating factor is that Kostopoulos is not a dirty guy and there was nothing malicious about the hit, just a player going into the corner after the puck.

Not trying to lay blame at Van Ryn or anything, but the situation is dicey considering the lead up to the hit. It wasn't a blatant "skate half way accross the ice and paste the player you saw the whole way", but just like errant stick penalties, a player should be in control of his body when it comes to situations like this....

No suspension...weak play by Van Ryn, he saw Kosto coming but he stopped just before the board. he didnt to get hit so he put himself in danger like that...stupid play

im sorry but kostopolous followed him in from the blue line, with van ryns back to him the entire way, once in the corner van ryn barely turned sideways so for the majority of the time kostopolous was lookin at his numbers, no reason for him to hit him and if he was trying to hit the side of him he would have missed the check to van ryns left cause thats the direction he was skating but once he stopped and turned kostopolous hit him directly in the back so he was obviously not aiming for his side to cut him off

Van Ryn is generally good at bracing himself for hits into the end boards. He had to look down, and that's when Kostopolous hit him. I say 5-10 games at least (as well as 1 at least for Kostitsyn)

The NHL doesn't care if you injure a player and he isn't able to play.

ie. Bertuzzi intent to injure of Steve Moore,

Mattias Ohlund's slash of Mikko Koivu,

or Torrey Mitchell's dangerous check of Kurtis Foster

How about the spear from Puke Grabovski on Price???

Anyhow, 5-10 didn't happen.....

I said a couple games and Kostopoulos got 3.....

You want to talk about Grabovski's spear? Let's talk about Gorges' punch, Koivu's kick, Sergei's attempt to end Schenn's career, Kostopolous' attempt to kill Van Ryn, Tanguay's sloo-foot, Price's punch in the head or Andrei's dirty run and grappling with the official?

Goon team.

Pat Quinn isn't coach of the Leafs anymore so you really don't have to whine like he did........

Always everyone else, the story never changes with Leaf fans!!
